Sun Kosi & Lower Tamur 3/4+

The Sun Kosi is one of the world’s great river journeys, renowned for its powerful yet playful Class III–IV whitewater, featuring big, bouncy rapids, friendly holes, and endless waves. Rising near Mount Shishapangma in Tibet, the legendary "River of Gold" flows east through Nepal, draining much of the eastern Himalayas before carving a spectacular path across the country.

From the put-in at Dolalghat to the take-out at Chatra, the Sun Kosi winds its way for 270 kilometres through some of Nepal’s most remote landscapes, although as Nepal's economy grows, each year more and more of the river is becoming populated along with more access points. Along the way, warm waters surge through deep valleys, lush hillsides, and traditional riverside villages. This expedition offers an unforgettable blend of exciting whitewater, breathtaking scenery, and pristine white-sand beaches, creating one of the finest multi-day river adventures anywhere on Earth.

The addition of the Tamur River elevates the journey to an entirely new level. With more than 40 Class IV+ rapids packed into a relatively short section, the Tamur is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding stretches of whitewater in the world. After a handful of Class III rapids provide a welcoming introduction, the river quickly builds in intensity, delivering rapid after rapid through a thrilling and continuous descent.

The Tamur’s dramatic finale unfolds through impressive gorges lined with towering rock walls before reaching Tribeni, where it joins the Sun Kosi where we camp for our final night on the river banks. The final day follows the merged waters downstream to Chatra, completing a remarkable Himalayan expedition. Steeper, more technical, and distinctly different in character, the Tamur perfectly complements the immense volume and power of the River of Gold, providing an unforgettable climax to an epic river adventure.

Throughout the expedition, fully supported rafts carry all food, camping equipment, and supplies, allowing guests to focus entirely on the journey. Each evening, we establish camp on secluded sandy river beaches, where days of adventure give way to peaceful nights beneath the stars. Gather around the campfire, share stories from the day’s rapids, listen to the sounds of the river and surrounding wilderness, and immerse yourself in the simple rhythm of life on one of the world's most spectacular river expeditions.
